Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-21

This policy describes what information Skembo collects and how it's used. It reflects what the product actually does today — we'll update it if that changes.

Information we collect

Skembo collects:

  • Account information — your email address, managed through our authentication provider, Clerk.
  • Search history — the searches you run (keyword, city, country) and which results you've been shown, so we can show you new businesses on repeat searches instead of the same ones.
  • Usage events — a minimal set of product-usage events (for example, that a search was started or completed) used to understand and improve the product. We collect only what's useful for that purpose, not a broad behavioral profile.
  • Payment status — whether you have an active subscription or a one-time purchase, and identifiers needed to manage that with our payment processor, Dodo Payments. Skembo does not receive or store your card details — those are handled entirely by Dodo Payments.
  • Mobile-money payment requests — if you pay by mobile money: the e-mail and identifier of your account, the payment method you used, the transaction reference you send, and the dates and outcome of our verification. We never receive or store your mobile-money PIN, password or validation codes, and we never ask for them. We keep payment request records for 12 months.

Business data

The business information Skembo returns in search results (business names, addresses, phone numbers, and similar public details) comes from third-party data sources, not from you. We store and reuse this data to answer future identical searches efficiently.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide and operate the search and results you request.
  • Enforce plan limits and entitlements (Free, One-Time Pass, Premium).
  • Process payments through Dodo Payments.
  • Verify mobile-money payments and notify you of the outcome (confirmation or rejection) in your SKEMBO account and, when available, by e-mail.
  • Understand how the product is used, to improve it.
  • Detect and prevent abuse of the service.

Cookies

Skembo uses cookies set by our authentication provider, Clerk, to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Analytics and product measurement

Skembo may use privacy-conscious analytics tools — Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity — to understand how the product is used and to improve it. These tools are only active when the corresponding configuration is explicitly set up on our end; if it isn't, no data is sent to them at all.

When active, these tools may record aggregate usage patterns such as which pages are viewed, general interaction behavior, and — specifically for Microsoft Clarity — anonymized session recordings and heatmaps showing how visitors interact with the page (clicks, scrolling, cursor movement). We do not intentionally send these tools sensitive content: passwords, payment details, API keys, or the contents of support messages are excluded from tracking by design.

This section describes our current practice, not a certification of compliance with any specific regulatory framework (e.g. GDPR, CCPA). If your jurisdiction requires a cookie/tracking consent step before analytics can run, we honor that requirement rather than bypassing it. Contact us with any question about analytics on Skembo.

Data sharing

We share information with the service providers that operate Skembo on our behalf — our authentication provider (Clerk), our database and hosting infrastructure, and our payment processor (Dodo Payments) — only as necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your information.

For mobile-money payments, the transfer itself is handled by the transfer service and mobile-money operator you choose, under their own terms; we only receive the transaction reference you send us. We also use an e-mail provider (Resend) to send transactional e-mails such as support notifications and payment confirmations or rejections.

Your choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account information at any time by contacting us. Deleting your account removes your personal identifiers from associated records where technically feasible.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll update the date above when we do.
