B2B Prospecting: How to Build a Target List That Converts

A target list is only as good as the criteria behind it. Before sourcing a single business, get specific about who belongs on the list — and just as importantly, who doesn't.

Define criteria you can actually search on

Vague criteria ("growing companies", "decision makers") sound strategic but don't translate into a search. Criteria you can search on directly — business type, city, country — get you a real, sourceable list today, which you can then layer additional qualification on top of.

Source, don't guess

Once criteria are clear, sourcing should be a structured search, not a manual crawl through maps and review sites. Each result should come with enough structured detail (address, phone, website) to move straight into outreach without a second research pass.

Keep the list current

Target lists go stale. A business closes, moves, or changes category, and a list built once and never revisited quietly loses accuracy. Rebuilding a list from a fresh search periodically — rather than trusting an old export indefinitely — keeps outreach aimed at businesses that still exist and still fit.

For a Premium account, exporting the current, structured version of a list to CSV or Excel makes it easy to hand off to a CRM or a sales sequence without manual reformatting.
